In Memory

Preston Fleming

Preston Lynn Fleming, 17, passed away on January 18, 2008 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. A native of Fayette County, he lived most of his life in Dawson County.  Preston attended the Dawson County School system and was planning to start at Lanier Tech in the Spring semester.  He had a great love for baseball and played on the high school baseball team and other teams in this area.

His parents, Kathy and Barry Fleming, knew how much Preston loved the KARE for Kids purpose, and because Preston meant so much to so many, we have set up a fund to continue to help needy children in Dawson County in his memory. You can donate by mailing your donation to:

Peggy England

Peggy England (1936 – 2007) worked many hours and shed many tears in her numerous years as a KARE volunteer. She had a heart of gold when it came to children and would not compromise in providing adequate assistance for the less fortunate children. Peggy worked tirelessly in every aspect of the organization, from taking applications to shopping, from festival work to cooking chili and beans, from bagging toys to asking for donations. The uniqueness of Peggy was that her entire family pitched in and worked right alongside of her, even her grandchildren. She instilled this motivation in many of us that knew her. We miss Peggy tremendously and will keep working for the children, as she would expect us to do.

For those who were so touched by all that Peggy did for them over the years, we have set up a fund to continue to help needy children in Dawson County in her memory. You can donate by mailing your donation to:

Gracie Hill Scholarship Fund

Gracie Hill was a beautiful child whose brief time on Earth touched the lives of many people in the Dawsonville community. All of us are the poorer for Gracie’s death. She wasn’t special just because of her wonderful parents, Charlie and Beth Hill, but because of her sweet nature, her charm and her angelic smile. If Gracie touched so many lives as an infant, we wonder how many others she would have impacted as an adult.

Beth and Charlie have been friends of KARE for Kids for a long time. Therefore, in honor of Gracie, KARE for Kids announces the availability of scholarship funds to a selected High School Senior. The primary criteria for determining the recipient of the scholarship is need, motivation to succeed and a future plan to make a difference in the community upon graduation from the selected institution.

TO BE CONSIDERED:

  1. Complete KARE for Kids application
  2. Provide letter of acceptance from college or vocational school
  3. Provide three written personal references; one from a Dawson County High School teacher, one from the High School principle, counselor or employer and a third one from a minister or adult mentor.
  4. Provide a written statement of your future goals and plans
